Graphic Design Studio I in Fall 2017

COURSE OVERVIEW The purpose of Graphic Design Studio I is to introduce the basic concepts, principles, and tools used in typography for visual communication. Conceptual and analytical thinking skills will be emphasized through projects and discussions. Design research and process will be taught and utilized throughout the semester. Decision making for effective visual communication will be emphasized. Project objectives: Exercise 1. Classify typefaces that you find in daily life Exercise 2. Experimental typographic. Project 1. Design an abstract letterform. Project 2. Design a poster about history of typeface. Project 3. Design a logo, a poster, and a leaflet for anniversary. DIGITAL DESIGN COMMUNICATION IN Fall 2017

Digital Design Commucination class is intended to improve your abilities in multi-dimensional problem solving, digital communication skills and perceptual sensitivity. The course will demand well-disciplined work and stringent standards for attendance, presentation, and process. Students develop design abilities while gaining exposure to several pieces of software, which will be used alone and in conjunction with each other to develop and convey your ideas. Therefore, this course is opened for all students in Iowa State University. Additionally, in order to focus on the basic funtions of each tools, I’ve set up different projects from Spring 2017. Learning objectives: Phase 1. Adobe Illustrator Learn how to use Adobe Illustrator. Know when you need to use Adobe Illustrator. Understand how Adobe Illustrator is different from other tools. Phase 2. Adobe PhotoShop Learn how to use Adobe Photoshop. Know when you need to use Adobe Photoshop. Understand how Adobe Photoshop is different from other tools. Phase 3. SketchUp & KeyShot Learn how to use SketchUp to create 3D design. Learn how to use Keyshot to assign materials on a 3D model, and to create an animation. Design Core Studio Fall 2016

The Core Design Program is the foundation for all undergraduate degree programs in the College of Design: Architecture, Community and Regional Planning, Graphic Design, Integrated Studio Arts, Interior Design, Industrial Design and Landscape Architecture. Students are exposed to the practice of interdisciplinary work and to the fundamental languages and practices that support all design disciplines.   Project 30-20-10 Eight steps that move between 2D and 3D, that require the creation of photographs, drawings with pen, collages, additive and subtractive construction, and sectional drawings.
